Questions

What patients ask first

Do I need an exam if I see fine?

Yes. Some changes in the eye cause no symptoms at first, and a prescription can change slowly.

How often should I have an exam?

Children, before first grade and then every year or two. Adults, every one to two years, or yearly if you wear lenses or are over 65.

Do you work with my vision plan?

We work with many vision plans and medical plans. Call with your plan's name and we check before your visit.

Why was part of my visit billed to medical insurance?

A visit about an eye problem or an eye disease goes to medical insurance, and a routine exam goes to a vision plan. Many visits mix both. How fees work explains it.

Can I fill my prescription somewhere else?

Yes. Your prescription is yours, and you can fill it anywhere.

Can I have my contact lens prescription?

Yes. You get a copy when the fitting is finished and you are comfortable in the lenses.

What should I bring to my visit?

Your glasses and contact lenses, your vision and medical insurance cards and a list of your medicines.

How much will it cost?

It depends on the visit and on your plan. We tell you what each part costs before you decide, and you can ask for a written estimate. How fees work has the details.

What do I do in an eye emergency?

For sudden vision loss, a curtain over your vision, a sudden shower of floaters, an eye injury or a chemical splash, call us now or go to the nearest emergency room. In a life-threatening emergency, call 911.

Can I see the same doctor at every office?

Doctors move between offices, so call and ask for a particular doctor. Your chart is the same everywhere.

  • Sudden vision loss, flashes of light, a curtain over your vision, a chemical splash or an eye injury needs care now. Call our office right away or go to an emergency room. If you can't reach us, call 911.
